The Sulphur Springs sub-varsity baseball teams split a pair of games Monday at home against squads from Texas High.
The Sulphur Springs freshmen fell by a 15-6 score; the JV staged a seventh inning comeback to win a nail-biter, 6-5.
T. High 9th 15, SS 9th 6
The Sulphur Springs freshmen fell behind early and could not recover, losing 15-6.
Kody Chester was the losing pitcher for the Wildcats.
Sulphur Springs did manage to score six times off six hits in the loss.
Catcher Justin Owens was 3-for-4 with a double, triple and one RBI; Blake Chester walked and had one RBI; Justin Johnson singled home a run; Kody Chester and Blake Macek added doubles.
SS JV 6, T. High JV 5
The Sulphur Springs junior varsity rallied for four runs in the final two innings to claim a 6-5 comeback win over Texas High.
Dallin Sant got the pitching win with a stellar job on the hill. Sant faced six batters in two innings, striking out four and allowing no runs or hits. Starting pitcher Bryce Jenkins went five innings, allowing five runs off five hits, walking five and striking out seven.
Sulphur Springs had 10 hits in the game.
Jared Riley’s infield ground ball with two outs in the bottom of the seventh could not be fielded by Texas High and allowed the winning run to score.
Riley was 2-for-4 in the game. Cody Carns and Tanner Stonaker had two hits each; Jose Martinez, Kade Wimberly, Colt Midgley and Tanner Gilbreath had one hit apiece.
