Saltillo edges Cumby, 6-5
CUMBY — The Cumby Lady Trojans rallied for two runs in the seventh inning but it was not enough as they lost 6-5 to Saltillo in district girls softball action.
Kirsten McLane was the winning pitcher. She struck out seven in seven innings, allowing 10 hits, five runs and walked one.
Top hitter for Cumby was Brooke Lane who went 3-for-4 with a triple, RBI and two runs; McLane was 2-for-4 including a double; Kimber Thompson, 2-for-4, two runs; Regan Martin, 2-for-4, RBI; Emily White and Candace Prather were each 1-for-4 with a run scored.
Losing pitcher was Lindsay Lemon. she allowed six runs in seven innings, struck out eight, gave up 11 hits and walked two. At the plate she was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs.
North Hopkins downs Sulphur Bluff, 11-1
The North Hopkins Lady Panthers scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back, taking an 11-1 win Monday in District 17-A girls softball action against Sulphur Bluff.
Chastin Smiddy got the pitching win. She walked four runners early, but settled down to fan a dozen, allowing one run off no hits.
Crissy Hall was 2-for-4 with a run while Jessica Harry slapped a homer, going 2-for-3 with three runs; Megan Haley was 2-for-3 with two RBI; Courtney Loper and Cheyenne Duke, each went had one hit and scored twice.
Losing pitcher for Sulphur Bluff was Ashley Bryant. She pitched five innings, allowing 11 runs off eight hits and 10 walks, striking out three.
