Sulphur Springs soccer fans get to see both teams in playoff action in the same place.
The Wildcats and Lady Cats will be in soccer playoff action Tuesday at Forney. The Lady Cats take on Frisco at Forney at 6 p.m. followed by the Wildcats vs. McKinney at 8 p.m. Sulphur Springs is the home team.
The Lady Cats and Wildcats both earned first round byes in district competition.
“McKinney is very good up top and they have a good center midfielder No. 15,” said Sulphur Springs head soccer coach Andy Holt. “They are solid in the back with a good sweeper and good outside backs. Their goalkeeper is aggressive and athletic. I think we have to play good defense and don't allow their guys to get behind us. For the most part we are healthy. We have lost Juan Juarez for the season due to an infection in his leg. I think we are ready to play.” The Wildcats did well in a warm-up game with Forney. That game the team a chance to get in playoff shape.
“ I think the warm-up game was good for us and we are ready to get after it,” Holt said. “I would say we are the underdog, but we are capable of beating them. McKinney doesn't remind me of anybody in the district, but they do remind me of a team like (state-ranked) Mesquite Poteet. I expect McKinney to possess the ball for the most part, but if we play good defense we will be able to create some opportunities from that.”
