The Sulphur Springs Wildcats had a plan, but it got washed away.
The Wildcats were supposed to be in baseball tournament play, tuning up for district play but then the rains came. Sulphur Springs did not get to compete in the Ennis tournament, so they will have to open district play Tuesday having not been on the diamond for a while. But much is the same case for all area baseball teams hampered by poor field conditions following rain and stormy conditions.
The Wildcats will play Tuesday at Pine Tree with the varsity taking on the Pirates at 6 p.m.The Sulphur Springs freshmen will host Pine Tree Monday at 4:30 p.m. followed by the JV at 7 p.m. if field conditions allow.
Sulphur Springs head coach Jerrod Hammack said his team was swinging the bat well before the recent layoff. Kolton Jones is posting a .571 average with Jake Dougan hitting near .500 while sophomore Tripp Reeves is adjusting well to varsity play with a .390 average. Jocko Spataro and Colby Suggs are both hitting near .300.
