Three lifters qualify for state

LINDALE — Three powerlifters from Sulphur Springs will be making the trip to Abilene for the state finals.

“The regional powerlifting meet went well.  The team got third place overall in the meet,” said SS powerlifting coach Rodney Flowers. “We missing first place by four points. Seven of the eight lifters that competed placed in the meet.  We had one first place, two second places, a third place, and three fifth place lifters.”

State Qualifiers:

Joe Scott took first place in the 181-pound weight division.

Taylor Link took second in the 132-pound weight division

Jake Russell took second in the 198-pound weight division Medal winners:

Andrew Burton took third in the super heavyweight class.

Tadarious Johnson took fifth place in the super heavyweight class.

Johnny McSheffery took fifth in the 165-pound weight class.

J.R. Rivera took fifth in the 148-pound weight class.

The state competition will be March 27-28 at the Taylor Expo Center in Abilene.

“This is the first time in my three years of coaching here that we had a lifter qualify for the state meet,” Flowers said.
