Lady Cats lose in Frisco tournament

FRISCO — The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats dropped their second game this week, falling 12-5 Thursday to Mesquite Poteet in the opening round of the Frisco softball tournament.
Earlier in the week the Lady Cats lost a heart-breaking 11-10 decision at Forney.
Things were not working well for Sulphur Springs as they allowed a dozen runs on 10 hits and make six errors in the field.
The Lady Cats (11-4) were playing short-handed due to illnesses and schedule conflicts. Jordan Sharp was inserted at catcher with Maurie Lewis out sick.
Top hitters for Sulphur Springs included JaMonica Hall with one hit, two RBI; Mac Morgan went1-for-2 with one RBI; Brittani Crawford had two RBI; Kara Tomlinson was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Taylor Clifton scored a run.
Kaci Kennedy threw three innings and took the loss on the mound. She faced 18 batters allowing seven runs, three earned runs, giving up five hits, one walk striking out one. Relief pitcher Clifton faced 17 batters allowing five runs from five hits, striking out three batters.
The Lady Cats play at 4 p.m. today against Lewisville and 6 p.m. they face Frisco Liberty.
