Lady Bears down
Fruitvale, 3-2
CAMPBELL – The Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears had one win and tie ballgame in the Campbell Tournament.
The Lady Bears trumped the Fruitvale 3-2. Lady Bear Ashley Bryant was the winning pitchers only allowing four walks.
Hayley Lawson had one hit and a double, Becca Naylor had one hit at bat once and two walks, Ginger Thompson had two hits, at bat three times, one walk, two singles, Jackie Blake had one hit, one walk, one single, Stephanie Hogue had a walk, Fatima Tellez and Mikayla Potts each had two walks.
The Lady Bears went on to tie Trenton 9-all. Bryant pitched five innings and only allowed two walks.
Lawson had one hit at bat three times and a single, Naylor had two hits, two singles, and a walk, Thompson had a hit and a double, Bryant also had a hit, a double, and a walk, Blake had three walks, Jamie Goldsmith had one hit at bat three times, and a single, Tellez had a walk, and Potts two walks.
In other recent action, The Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears hosted Simms Bowie on Tuesday with a loss of 9-4.
Lawson  had one hit out of five and a double, Naylor one hit, a walk and a single, Thompson two hits, one walk and two double, Bryant one hit out of four, a walk and a single, Blake one hit and a single, Hogue, Tellez, and Potts each had two walks a piece.
Bryant pitched seven innings with four walks. “This is the first time the girls have played softball in a few years, and they are playing well together. They are improving everyday and we are looking forward to district play,” said Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears head softball coach Ron Hogue.
North Hopkins girls
beat Dodd City, 4-3
DODD CITY – The North Hopkins Lady Panthers (6-3) take a win in a 4-3 game over the hosting Dodd City Tuesday.         The game-winning hit was a single by Cheyenne Duke in the third inning for North Hopkins.
Leading hitters were Chastin Smiddy with three hits at four times at bat, Liz Shaw had two hits on four and one run, Jessica Harry was three of four, Crissy Hall had a hit and one run, Grace Cox had a hit out of three times at bat with one run.
“Our pitching is carrying us right now. Defense is helping. We need to hit better,” North Hopkins Lady Panthers head softball coach Jim Westbrook said. Pitchers Smiddy and Harry. Smiddy pitched four innings, struck out six, one run, one walk, and two hits.
Saltillo Lady Lions
pound Ector, 11-4
CELESTE — The Saltillo Lady Lions were on the prowl Thursday taking an 11-4 win over Ector in non-district softball action.
The bats were scorching for Saltillo with the team getting nine hits and taking advantage of four errors by Ector.
Top hitters for the Lady Lions were; Cassie Prather, 2-for-4 including a triple, three RBI, four runs scored; EmilyWhite, 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI, four run scored; Kimber Thompson, 2-for-4, three RBI; Brooke Lane, 1-for-4 with one run scored and Regan Martin, 1-for-4, a double and one RBI.
Kirsten McLane was the winning pitcher with four innings pitches, striking out three, allowing four runs, walking three and giving up two hits.
In the game, Saltillo bolted to a quick 3-0 lead after one run and added four more runs in the second frame to hold a 7-0 advantage.
Play continues in the Celeste tournament today.
