The Hopkins County adult, special needs bowling athletes formerly known as “The Contenders” are branching off from the Paris league to start their own team under the name “My Bowl”. They selected this name to honor the memory of Jim Mason, an all time avid bowler in Sulphur Springs.
In October, the team attended the Area competition in Dallas. Then more recently went onto compete at State for the Special Olympics from Feb. 4-6 in Austin. Those attending were: Andy Powers, Ashley Edmonson, Joanna McQueen, Cody Greathouse, Marcie Underwood, Justin Jumper, Martha Thompson, Nicholas Reeves, Catalina Torres, Tommy Kimmell, Shandell Sixberry, Greg Woods, Debbie McRoberts, Amanda Edmonson, and Abbas Sawyer. Each member came home with a medal or ribbon in honor of their success. Since finishing state, the team will now begin a new bowling year. They will be hosting a fundraiser soon, along with preparing for their next contest.
“We are a non-profit organization, and all donations are appreciated,” said coach Debbie Davis. “Anyone interested in becoming a team member or volunteering, contact Johnny Stapleton at 903-885-7978 or myself at 903-945-2885.”
