ALLEN — The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats went 4-1 in recent softball tournament action played at Allen.
The Lady Cats were affective despite windy and cold conditions and several players unable to take part due to illness.
In the tournament the team hit .360 scoring 27 runs while allowing 12.
Opposing teams hit just .270 as pitchers posted a 2.00 earned run average. Taylor Clifton went 3-1 with a 1.88 earned run average while Kaci Kennedy posted one win. The pitchers combined to strike out 29 batters in 28 innings.
The squad split two Saturday games in the tournament.

Lady Cats 0
The bats were held pretty silent for Sulphur Springs as they managed no runs with Vista Ridge Leander getting a 2-0 shutout win.
Clifton pitched six innings, allowing eight hits, two runs, one earned run and struck out six while walking one and facing 25 batters. She threw 75 pitches, 54 strikes.
Sulphur Springs got singles from Mac Morgan, Jalie Eppars, Katie Dodd, T’Kea Johnson and Baylee Speaker.
Vista Ridge scored two runs in the fifth for the lone rally of the game.
Lady Cats 8, Sachse 2
The Lady Cats came back with a vengeance in their next outing with 11 hits as they won easily over Sachse.
Dodd was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a double to highlight the hitting.
Other top hitters were Speaker was 2-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored; Eppars was 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored; Clifton went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Krista McMahan added an RBI; Kara Tomlinson had one hits, one RBI.
Clifton pitched a complete game to get the win. She faced 23 batters, striking out 11, allowing two runs, one earned run, four hits, while walking none and facing 23 batters. She threw 79 pitches, 59 strikes.
For the season the Lady Cats have scored 106 runs while allowing 31.
The team is hitting .389 overall. Morgan is the top hitter with a .538 averages and 21 hits and 10 RBI in 13 games. Kennedy is hitting .500 while Maurie Lewis has a .480 average with 12 hits and 16 RBI and a .720 slugging percentage; Tomlinson is hitting .438 with two homers, 13 RBI.
