RAINS — The North Hopkins Lady Panthers defeated the Rains Lady Cats by one run Friday, 5-4.
The game-winning hit was a double by Liz Shaw in the top of the seventh inning.
Leading hitters for the Lady Panthers were Chastin Smiddy with two hits with twice at bat and scored three runs, Courtney Loper and Shaw had two hits for four bats and one run, Tana Hall had two hits on three bats and scored one run, Grace Cox and Jessica Harry each had a hit on three bats, and Harry had one run.
Harry pitched four innings giving up four runs and three hits. The winning pitcher for North Hopkins was Chastin Smiddy. She pitched three innings and struck out three, allowed no runs or walks and only one hit.
Rains hitter had a triple in the fourth to score three runs.
"Liz Shaw threw out two runners at second and caught a pop up and made a great catch of the final pitch on a strikeout," said North Hopkins softball coach Jim Westbrook.

Saltillo tops C-P
COMO — The Saltillo Lady Lions took home a 9-5 win over the Como-Pickton Lady Eagles on Feb. 24.
Leading hitters for Saltillo were Emily White with two RBIs, one single, and two walks; Cassie Prather had one RBI, a single, and two walks; Kirsten McLane had a double and a walk; Kimber Thompson had a RBI with a walk; Katie Hohbein and Kadi Gammel each had a RBI and Jessica Castro added a single.
Pitchers for the Lady Lions were Kirsten McLane, Taryn Simmons, and Ericka Mobley. McLane was the winning pitcher under three innings, three strikeouts, five runs, two walks and eight hits.
Hitting for Como-Pickton were Maci Kight with a double and single; Marbelli Rasdagdo had a single and a RBI; Kaci Harmon had a single; and Jessica Hendricks and Shelby Harrison each scored a home run on an error.
Pitchers for the Lady Eagles were Megan McCoy and Kaci Harmon.
Como-Pickton will compete Tuesday at home against Cooper at 6:30 p.m.
