Wildcats win two in Tyler

TYLER — The Sulphur Springs Wildcats took two wins Friday in Rose City baseball tournament action played in Tyler. Sulphur Springs 9,
Jacksonville 8

Colby Suggs’ bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning propelled the Wildcats past Jacksonville in a wild affair.
The game-winning hit was preceded by Jacksonville’s five-run top of the seventh to tie the game.

Suggs finished the game 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Jocko Spataro also drove in three runs, going 2-for-4. Mason Rawson and Jake Dougan each had three hits as part of Sulphur Springs’ 17-hit attack.
Franki Almendarez and Andrew Montgomery both had two hits for Jacksonville. Brandon Orr reached base all four times with a single, three walks and three runs scored.

Sulphur Springs and Nacogdoches went back and forth with the Wildcats ultimately emerging victorious Friday in game four of the Rose City Classic at Mike Carter Field.
Sulphur Springs, which is undefeated in its three ball games, scored two runs in the top of the first, highlighted by an RBI triple from Colby Suggs. The Dragons answered with a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Jake Skeeters.
The teams traded punches again in the second inning with Sulphur Springs scoring two in the top half on a two-run double from pitcher Jake Dougan. Again, the Dragons had an answer, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second, thanks to three Sulphur Springs errors.
The teams continued to match one another the rest of the game. Nacogdoches pulled to with a run, 7-6 in the fifth on a two-run homer from Charles Grogan, but couldn’t break through for any more.
Dougan got the win, giving up four runs, one of them earned on five hits with five walks and four strikeouts. Mason Morton gave up the two-run homer to Grogan in relief, but blanked Nacogdoches in the sixth for the save.
The game was called after six innings due to the two-hour time limit.
