PRAIRILAND — After a long 12-year wait, the Sulphur Bluff Bears miss out on a chance to continue their run in the basketball playoffs by just one bucket to the Ector Eagles Tuesday. The matchup ended in Ector's favor, 74-72.
The Bears started the game with a nine-point deficit, but managed to close it to seven by the end of the first half. Both teams played equally offensively at 17-all in the third. Even with the high scoring of Zach Leatherwood punching in 24 points, Colt Nichols hit 22, and Cody Austin netted 19, the Bears came up just shy in the fourth quarter.
Ector took the 74-72 win and the bi-district title for Class A, Division II and will advance to play Avinger in the area round.
