Lady Cats win Friday softball games

ALLEN — The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats scored two lopsided wins Friday here in softball tournament action.
    The Lady Cats had their bats sizzling as they pounded out 21 hits in an 18-0 win over Allen.

    Katie Barnett had two doubles driving in three. Sierra Nickerson had a triple going 3-for-3 with two runs plated. Jaleigh Avery had four hits, two RBIs; Sarah Womack was 3-for-4 with one run knocked in. Molly Johnston and Melanie Ford each had doubles, two total hits, one RBI each; Mary Lopez also went 2-for-3, one RBI; Kiara Johnson and Makayla Glosson had one hit, one walk, one RBI apiece.
    Katie Sapaugh threw three innings of shutout ball, allowing two hits, walking two and striking out three.
    The second game Friday was not as easy, Sulphur Springs took a 4-2 win over South Grand Prairie.
    Avery led the way at the dish with two hits (including a double), two runs plated. Nickerson had a double, single and one RBI; Johnson had one hit, one RBI. Glosson contributed a double and single. Lopez had one hit.
    Winning pitcher was Sapaugh with five innings of work, giving up two hits, two runs (no earned runs), striking out five, walking three.
    The Lady Cats conclude the tournament Saturday.
