Lady Cats vs. The Colony in regional semis tonight

Sulphur Springs takes on The Colony take in the first game at the Class 4A regional girls basketball tournament in Garland.
    The contest is set for the Curtis Culwell Center with the Lady Cougars (17-5) and the Lady Cats (25-5) clashing at 6 p.m.

    The game is the first of a twinbill in the Region II tournament. Sulphur Springs is the visiting team.
    The second game today is a match between Frisco Liberty (home team) against McKinney North in a 7:30 p.m. tilt.
    The final will be at 1 p.m. Saturday.
    Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for students, per game. Parking is $5.
    The game between Sulphur Springs and The Colony is a battle of teams on a roll.
    The Lady Cats finished second in district, their last loss coming Jan. 31 at Texas High.
    Since then Sulphur Springs has been steady with four wins in a row.
    The Lady Cats opened postseason action with a 52-43 victory of Lucas Lovejoy.
    Sulphur Springs then won a nail-biter, downing Mansfield Summit late by a 39-36 score in the second round.
    The Lady Cats earned a ticket to the regional tournament, taking a 50-32 victory of Mansfield Lake Ridge. Sulphur Springs went on a 19-6 run in the third period to blow open the game.
    The Lady Cats are averaging 54 points per game, allowing just 41 a contest.
    The Colony Lady Cougars have won seven games in a row. They are averaging 48 points  per game, allowing 41.6 a tilt.
    The squad opened the postseason whipping Highland Park, 55-43. The Colony won 62-45 over Dallas Adams and took a 39-36 regional quarterfinal win over Lakeview Centennial.
    “We plan to play good defense. We know The Colony likes to get the ball inside to their big girl,” said Jeff Chapman, Sulphur Springs head girls basketball coach. “If we play good defense then you always have a chance. We rebounded well in our last game, we need to do that again.”
    Probable starters for the Lady Cats include: Desi Debase, 5-4  junior; Shakoja Debase, 5-6 senior; Chrissalynd Person, 5-5 junior; Destiny Wade, 6-0 senior and Kasey Moore, 6-2 junior.
