The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats open the Region II tournament Friday in Garland with a 6 p.m. game against The Colony.
Sulphur Springs comes into the game with a 25-5 record, making the regional semi-finals for just the second time in school history.

Frisco Liberty vs. McKinney North, 7:30 p.m. Friday in the late game. The championship is between the winning teams at 1 p.m. Saturday
Jeff Chapman, Sulphur Springs head girls coach has not advanced to this level as a coach in Texas, but did take three teams to the state finals while coaching in Oklahoma.
The Lady Cats defeated Mansfield Lake Ridge 50-32 in the regional quarterfinals Tuesday in Rockwall.
The Colony is 17-5 for the year, having won the last eight games in a row.  The Lady Cougars edged Garland Lakeview Centennial, 39-36 in the regional semifinals.
“We have scouted them and watched video,” said Chapman,  “They have a big girl, she is taller than Destiny. They like to get the ball to her. The rest of the players are average size.”
Chapman said, “We saw them against a press, they had no trouble breaking it and scoring. All teams this time of year are going to be good.”
“I think they are a good match for us, they use a 1-2-2 wide zone or a 3-2, not much man-to-man,” Chapman said. “We have seen teams use those defenses and we know how to play against them. We’ve been successful in that situation.”
Chapman said the mindset of the Lady Cats is good coming off the big win.
“We are pretty determined. The girls want to win and keep going,” Chapman said. “We feel fortunate to be in this position. The team feels good about themselves.”
Chapman said the team had the goal of making a deep run in the playoffs after getting eliminated from postseason early last season.
“That team lost and most of those players are back and they want to do more than we ever have in the playoffs.” Chapman said.
