The Sulphur Springs Wildcats are in unique position, and they like it.

The Wildcats take on Marshall tonight in the final regular season game, but it’s not the last game of the year. Sulphur Springs knows that due to clinching a playoff berth, they have at least one more game after tonight.
The Wildcats take on Marshall on the road, the contest is slated to begin at 5;30-6 p.m. varsity only, due to the weather.
Sulphur Springs is a 16-11, 7-2 in district winner of their last seven consecutive games. Marshall has a 5-4 record in district, 26-5 on the year.
In the first meeting between the two squads Jan. 24 in Sulphur Springs, the Wildcats took an 87-79 win.
To help get his team ready for postseason play, Sulphur Springs head boys basketball coach Jeremy Josey has an interesting approach the regular season finale.
“We are treating Tuesday night just like a playoff game, with the hostile environment and competition,” Josey said. “We are not taking anything for granted and are preparing for Tuesday’s game just like every game. Marshall will be playing for third place and we know that match ups matter in the playoffs.”
Sulphur Springs will begin the playoffs against the winner of the Wylie/Wylie East game. If Wylie East wins then there will still be a coin flip for third place.
The Wildcats enter the game with Marshall riding the crest of a seven game winning streak. Sulphur Springs has won more games this year that in several years combined.
Just making the playoffs was a pleasant surprise, but to take second place with wins over Texas High and Marshall make this a season to remembered under second year coach Josey.
