SSMS powerlifters win 16 medals

    EMORY — The Sulphur Springs Middle School powerlifting team brought home 16 medals from competition at Rains ISD on Feb. 4.
    Jo’el Morales was first in the 97-pound weight class lifting 415 total pounds.

    Jadan Miles took second in the 105-pound division, lifting 420 total pounds.
    In the 114-pound division —Jonathan Alvarez lifted 575 total pounds for first place; second place went to Dee Shepard with 420 total pounds lifted.
    In the 123-pound class — first was awarded to Colton Allen, lifting 590 total pounds; second was Kyle Anderson with a total lift of 560 pounds.
    Bryan Comacho took second in the 132-pound division, lifting 535 total pounds.
    Vincent Morales lifted 650 total pounds for second in the 132-pound division.
    Taking second place in the 165-pound division was Jaxon Reneau with a 655 pound lift; third went to Daniel Murillo, lifting 585 total pounds.
    Ramon Hernandez was first in the 181-pound class, lifting 730 total pounds.
    In the 198-pound class — second went to Jesus Zarco with 680 total pounds lift with third going to Jose Rodriguez, 610 pound total lift.
    Brenton Zapata was second in the 220-pound division, lifting 575 total pounds.
    Sulphur Springs first and third in the 229-pound plus category. Ian Blanch was first, lifting 840 total pounds while Tyrese Williams got third from a lift of 725 total pounds.
    Coach Jeremy Scroggins said, “These guys all work hard in the weight room and continue to improve each meet. Our next meet will be on Feb. 18 in Sulphur Springs in the multi-purpose building.”
