HALLSVILLE — Balanced scoring and tough defense were too much for Hallsville to overcome as they fell 57-37 at home Tuesday to the Sulphur Springs Wildcats.
It was the sixth consecutive win in district play the for the Wildcats as they took the victory and moved another step toward postseason play for the first time since 2008.

"It was a big win, we know we are in the playoffs. We just don't know what place," said Jeremy Josey, Sulphur Springs head boys basketball coach.
Josey pointed out the stellar defensive effort by the Wildcats as a key to the 20-point 14-4A win.
"We took an early lead, we only allowed five points in the first half. If you do that you are playing pretty well on defense," Josey remarked. "We did a good job of getting defensive stops and getting the ball out to our point guard Isaiah Lacy. Lacy ran the floor well and had eight assists, just in the first quarter. It was a good overall team effort. We got to play lots of people and they all played hard."
Lacy led the scoring with 18 in the game. Darian Dial-Hall added 12 points in the game.
Despite the large crowd and festive atmosphere, it was the Wildcats who grabbed control of the contest early. Sulphur Springs jumped out to a 19-3 lead after one period and by intermission, the hometown Bobcats were on the short end of a 30-5 score.
In the third period, Hallsville  outscored the Wildcats 20-17. Sulphur Springs settled down and scored when they had to in the final period and put the game away, winning the 57-37 final.
"We kept Hallsville off the boards. I would say our rebounding was improved over the Texas High game and that was good to see," Josey said. "Hallsville had a big, loud crowd. They came out with energy in the third period and cut the lead to get in the game. We got refocused and played well and won the game."
The Wildcats return home for Senior Night Friday against Pine Tree. Seniors to be honored include Lacy, Darian Dial-Hall, Johnny Morgan, Javaron Ross and DeAndre Wright.
