SS softball drops three scrimmages

    ROCKWALL — The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats came up short in three scrimmages played here Saturday.

    “We lost against three playoff teams from last year. This was good competition,” said David Carrillo, Sulphur Springs head girls softball coach. “We played hard, it was good experience for us.”
    The morning clash saw The Colony take a 3-2 win over Sulphur Springs.
    Katie Sapaugh was pinned with the pitching loss. The southpaw pitched four innings, striking out five, walking one and allow three runs off four hits. All the runs were earned, two of the hits were home runs.
    Katie Barnett had an RBI double. Sarah Womack also had a double. Sierra Nickerson and Mary Lopez added singles.
    In the second game, the Lady Cats gave up nine runs in the first inning, falling to Rockwall by a 9-3 score.
    Womack got the pitching loss. She allowed 12 hits, nine runs (all earned) walking two,  striking out two in 3.1 innings
    Kiara Johnson had two hits including a double and plated two runs. Lopez had a double and a single. Jaleigh Avery slapped a single.
    The Lady Cats also hit into a triple play during the contest Carrillo said.
    In the final game of the day, Sulphur Springs lost 8-2 to North Forney.
    Sapaugh pitched four innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned runs), eight hits, walking three, striking out one. She allowed one home run.
    Avery had a double, one run batted in. Barnett also knocked in a run.    Nickerson had a double. Womack and Molly Johnston also contributed hits.
    Sulphur Springs plays Saturday at Frisco Lone Star, games are set at 11 a.m. and 12:10 p.m.
