TEXARKANA — Sulphur Springs split a pair of games Saturday in the final round of the Pleasant Grove soccer tournament.

The Wildcats beat Atlanta in the early game by an 8-0 score. Goals came from Brian Dela Rose (two), Andy Green (two) and one each from Samuel Gallegos, Josh Foster and Chris Espinoza.
Wildcat coach Andy Holt said, “It was an interesting set up in the tournament and we unfortunately won all three of our group games, but so did the other teams that were in our group.  Paris, Whitehouse, and us all ended with 29 points for the tournament.  We unfortunately lost a coin flip with Whitehouse to see who got to play in the finals.”
Holt said, “We played in the third place game against Pleasant Grove.  We tied 0-0.  We had several chances and missed a penalty kick with about 15 minutes left in the game.  We controlled the game, but couldn't find the back of the net this time.  We went to a shoot out and it went to the 17th shooter. Tanner Ramirez stopped the last shot for Pleasant Grove and scored the last goal for us to win the game and the third place trophy.  It's probably pretty rare to go undefeated in a tournament and get  third place.  We played well this weekend and we need to take that into next Saturday's game against Greenville in the first district game of the year.”
The Wildcats open district at Greenville Saturday. The junior varsity game is at 11 a.m. and the varsity tilt at 12:45 p.m.
