The football programs at Como-Pickton and Cumby also had changes in their district teams, thanks to the University Interscholastic League realignment.
Como-Pickton’s current district features Paris Chisum, Cooper, Bogata Rivercrest, Edgewood, Alba-Golden and Clarksville.

The new Class 2A, Division I District 6 teams include: Como-Pickton, Honey Grove, Wolfe City, Quinlan Boles, Bogata Rivercrest and Clarksville.
“We are very pleased and happy with the way it came out for us,” said Conley Bland, Como-Pickton head football coach and athletic director. “This is much better for us. It evens things up with enrollment and makes us able to compete. We still have good teams in district, you can’t duck everyone, but we a happy with the ones now in our district.”
Bland said, “This is good for us and it takes the enrollment factor out of it. This is very even and we can be competitive.”
Bland said his is also pleased with location of the new teams.
“Our road trips aren’t bad, most the teams are an hour or less away,” Bland said. “We have a good group of younger kids coming back who have played a lot. They have weathered the storm, they are seasoned now and we look forward to the future of this group.”
Meanwhile over in Cumby, head coach/AD Tom Dracos is not pleased with the new alignment as it came down from UIL.
“I think we will be pretty competitive in this new district, but we will have to use a lot of gas,” Dracos said.
Cumby went from being in a district with Quinlan Boles, Overton, Detroit, Maud and Union Hill to a new look district.
The District 8 2A, Division II Region III teams include: Cumby, Collinsville, Era, Muenster, Lindsay, Celeste and Detroit.
“Some these teams are two hours of more away,” Dracos said. “This is an a disadvantage for us. We wanted to keep teams like Maud and Overton. Now we will be driving the other side of Gainesville. I don’t know how UIL looks at a map, but is must be funny to see.”
Dracos coached for years in Callisburg and knows the teams in that area.
“The coaches in that area much wonder how they ended up playing against us,” Dracos said. “I know the coaches and their programs. It was definitely a shocked to see Cumby placed in a district with those teams. We will have a battle every week. But our goal is to make the playoffs and playing teams like this will help us get ready. We just have to stay healthy and that will give us a chance to keep going in the playoffs.”
Basketball district for teams the area include: Class 2A, District 14, Como-Pickton, Cumby, Fruitvale, Martins Mill, Quinlan Boles, North Hopkins. Class 1A, District 22 includes: Campbell, Miller Grove, Dodd City, Ector, Ladonia Fannindel, Roxton and Savoy; District 24 includes: Avinger, Bloomburg, Union Hill, Karnack, Saltillo, Sulphur Bluff and Yantis.
