From Staff Reports

Several area basketball games were played recently with the following scores reports.

NH girls 45, McLeod 37
BIRTHRIGHT — The North Hopkins Lady Panthers fought from behind to roll past McLeod 45-37 in District 16A action to finish their regular season at home Friday night.
Freshman Sheyenne Mitchell came off the bench to record her first varsity double-double hitting for 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Senior Chelsey Crouch had a solid outing with seven points and 12 boards. Allegra Thomas had a great defensive effort and brought down 13 caroms. Baile Gammill hit for eight points and had a solid game at point guard. She also had five steals in the contest.
The win clinched at least a tie for the third place playoff ticket. James Bowie kept pace with a narrow 39-37 overtime win over Detroit.
The Lady Panthers have completed their district slate, but Bowie has one contest left against McLeod next Tuesday. If Bowie wins, the Lady Panthers will meet them in a playoff contest later in the week. A Bowie loss to McLeod would give North Hopkins the final playoff spot in District 16-A.
"I can't say enough about my girls. We wanted the last game at home to mean something and it sure did," said Larry Tucker Lady Panthers head coach. "We know we are going to play at least one more game and that's all that matters. Not bad for a team that was picked dead last and was two games behind Bowie just two weeks ago."
McLeod led the entire first half until the buzzer when North Hopkins scored at the buzzer to give the Lady Panthers a 25-24 lead at intermission. A 10-4 advantage in the third quarter put the Lady Panthers ahead 34-27 gong into the final period.
"For once, we won a game at the free throw line. We hit 14-19 free throws to their 4-14 from the line,"Tucker added. "That's a far cry from our loss at their place where they shot 29 free throws to our seven."
The win raises the Lady Panthers record to 16-13 for the year and 6-6 in District 16-A. Honey Grove clinched the district championship with a close 47-41 win at Avery. Avery holds down the second slot with North Hopkins and Bowie vying for third.
