Lady Cats win softball scrimmages

    WHITE OAK — The first softball scrimmage action of the year for Sulphur Springs resulted in two wins here Thursday.

    Sulphur Springs defeated White Oak 3-2 in a close battle. Leading hitters were: Melanie Ford,1-for-2, 2 RBIs and Kiara Johnson, 1-for-1 with one RBI.
    Katie Sapaugh was the winning pitcher. She went five innings, allowing six hits, two earned runs, walking three and striking out three.
    The Lady Cats rolled over Gladewater 15-2 in the second scrimmage of the day.
    Makayla Glossen was 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored. Johnson knocked in 5 runs, going 2-for-2.
    Sarah Womack pitched two innings and gave up two earned runs. She walked three and fanned two. Sierra Nickerson closed out the game with a scoreless inning, striking out two and walking one.
    “We did some good things for our first scrimmage,” said David Carrillo, head softball coach. “I felt like we need to do a better job communicating, but that’s understandable for a first scrimmage. We batted the lineup to get all our kids involved to be better evaluate. We will continue to adjust to put the best lineup on the field.”
    The varsity will play three games in Rockwall Saturday.
