Sulphur Springs teams play MP today

Both Sulphur Springs teams are hoping that important wins over Marshall be translate into good games against Mount Pleasant.


    The Lady Cats will host Mount Pleasant in a key district game today. The ninth grade game begins at 5 p.m. followed by the junior varsity at 6  p.m. and varsity at 7:15 p.m.
    Sulphur Springs is 5-2 in the playoffs, 20-4 overall. The Lady Cats scored a season-high 72 points downing Marshall on the road Friday.
    In the first meeting at Mount Pleasant, the Lady Cats won 53-43.
    Mount Pleasant, is 4-3 in district, coming off an 11 point win over Pine Tree.
    The Lady Cats have won three consecutive games by an average score of  62-32. They had not allowed a district opponent to score over 39 points in two weeks.
    The Wildcats will be on the road playing three games at Mount Pleasant.
    The freshman game tips off at 5 p.m. with the junior varsity and varsity to follow.
    The game is the first contest of the second round. Mount Pleasant won 60-44 in earlier action.
    “We expect a close game vs. a team that we struggled with the first time through in district,” said Jeremy Josey, Sulphur Springs head boys basketball coach. “We know they will be prepared, as they always are. We must be ready ourselves. We have a little momentum going with three wins in a row in district, but we also understand we have not achieved anything yet. We have goals as a team, and every practice and game we’re working towards those goals.”
    The Wildcats are 12-11, 3-2 riding a three-game win streak. They upset Marshall 87-79 at home Friday. Isaiah Lacy had 24 points and dished off 16 assists in the big win. Cain Cody had 19 points, 7 rebounds. Jaylon Dugan scored 16, Javaron Ross 14 and Darian Dial-Hall added 10. The Wildcats shot 58.2 percent as a team.
    Mount Pleasant is also 3-2 in district. The Tigers whipped Pine Tree, 46-32 in their last outing. DeAundre Field was top scorer with 17, K.D. Cannon added 11 points.
