Sulphur Springs head baseball coach Jerrod Hammack says the Wildcats might surprise some teams in district this year.

“We did lose some quality players,”  Hammack said. “But this is my ninth year here, I think we reload more than we rebuild. The younger kids know the program and the situation. This group has the capability of being as good, if not better than last year.”
The Wildcats were 22-10-1 last year, 7-4 in district and advancing to the area playoffs.
Returning players include:  Ben Brooks, Jr, pitcher, third baseman; Brennan Brock, Sr., outfielder; Larry Pryor, Jr., outfielder; Alex Burney, Sr., second base, second team All-Distric; Ross Cody, Sr., DH; Blake Doughtie, Sr.,  first baseman; Tyler Williams, Sr., outfielder; Garret Hood, Sr., pitcher/first baseman.
Hammack listed newcomers as: Landon Brock, Jr., infielder; Carson Hicks, Jr., catcher/infielder; Ryan Ferguson, Jr, catcher/pitcher; Hunter Elliott, Sr., third baseman/pitcher; Hunter Coleman, Jr, pitcher; Parker Aguilar, Jr., outfielder; Codey Farley, Sr., outfielder; C.J. Stephens, Jr., outfielder/second base; Ethan Phillips, Jr., outfielder; Kade Hudgins, Jr., outfielder/pitcher; Dillon Carpenter, Jr., pitcher/infielder; Chase Harry, Jr., pitcher/infielder.
District member Hallsville is ranked No. 7 in the statewide Class 4A preseason baseball poll.
The Wildcats will be seeking their 10th consecutive playoff berth.
