Wildcats win SS powerlifting meet

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats bested all competitors taking first place in their powerlifting meet held Saturday at the SSHS multi-purpose building.

    “We had a great and supportive crowd. We competed well and we are still building,” said Jeremy Offutt, Sulphur Springs powerlifting coach. “ Everyone that competed for us will be able to make some bigger gains as we continue this season. The event went very smoothly. We had 24 boys teams, 16 girls teams. That included 180 boys  and 90 girls.”
    Sulphur Springs was first in the boys division with 25 points, Denison had 24 points and Emory Rains scored 23 points. Emory Rains won the girls division, Winnsboro, second.
    Jesse Ortiz was first place in the 123-class and also won an award for the best lifter in the light platform. Ortiz lift 355 in the squat: 195 bench press; 380, dead lift for a 930 total. In the same division - Dylan Izzi was third. He had 305 squat; 180 bench; 305, dead lift for 790 total pounds.
    Dedric Smith won the 181-pound class for Sulphur Springs. He had a 1,185 total from a 440 squat, bench press of 265, dead lift of 480 pounds. In the same division, Zach Spigner lift, 1,115 pounds for third. He had a squat of 390, bench press of 260, dead lift of 465 pounds. Tyler Rosamond was seventh. He had a 985 total from a 370 squat, bench of 235 and dead lift of 380.
    Luis Gamez had a 1,015 pound total for third in the 148-pound class. He had a squat of 375, bench press of 250, dead lift of 390. Also in the same division, 11th place went Luis Colorado, he had a squat of 305, bench of 200, dead lift of 305 for a 810 pound total. Amario Zamora was 19th. He had a squat of 275, bench of 145, dead lift of 310 for a 730 total. Mason Cleveland was 23rd, with a 250 squat, bench press of 140, dead lift of 300 for a 690 total.
    Chris Miles was fifth in the 165-pound class. He had a squat of 365, bench of 215 and dead lift of 380 for a 960 total.
    In the 198 class- Alex Gamez was sixth. He had a 430 squat, 215 bench and dead lift of 1,060. Braylyn Adams, 12th. He had a 410 squat, 180 bench, dead lift of 355 for a 945 total. Bryton Wood competed, but did not place.
    Jess Jenkins was fifth in super heavy weight with a 1,265 pound total. He had a squat of 445, bench, 305; dead lift, 515.
