MARSHALL — It was a milestone night as the Lady Cats rolled to a 72-39 win over Marshall here Friday night.
The 72 points were by far the most scored this season and in any district game. The Lady Cats were averaging 56 points a game.

The victory was the 20th of the year for Sulphur Springs. More importantly the win moved the Lady Cats to 5-2 in district, 20-4 overall. Sulphur Springs took a step toward clinching a District 14-4A playoff berth with three games left.
Desi Debase continues to amaze and baffle teams in district. The junior point guard had 37 points, including two 3-pointers. She also had eight deflections, four steals, five assists.
Shakoja Debase had 10 points with two triples, two steals, two deflections. Kasey Moore led the team with six rebounds. Chaliyah Moore had eight points off the bench.
The loss dropped Marshall to 1-6 in district play.
“Marshall came out on fire and very aggressive to start the game. We had a slow start,” said Jeff Chapman Sulphur Springs Lady Cats head coach. “But we played better after that. We scored 72, that’s a lot of points for us.”
“Our defense helped us score, Desi got her points and Chaliyah Moore had a good game,” Chapman said. “We stepped up and played hard the whole game.”
Chapman said he has been urging his team to play well for four quarterss and put a team away once you have a big lead. The Lady Cats were inspired by the Marshall home fans, the coach said.
“Marshall has a special type of vocal fans,” Chapman said. “They wanted to talk to our players and that got us going. It motivated our team to play well. We did it because of the vocal fans. We are always looking for motivation. I don’t want our team to cruise when we get a big lead. We want to keep playing and scoring. We did that against Marshall.”
The Lady Cats, winners of three straight district games, host Mount Pleasant Tuesday night.
“That’s a big one, we might have a chance to clinch a playoff spot,” Chapman said.
