Area basketball scores

    Several basketball teams in the area played games recently with the following scores reported.

SSMS girls 30, Hallville 14
    The Sulphur Springs eighth grade blue team won 30-14 over Hallsville in Thursday play.
    Kaylee Jefferson led with 20 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, 4 blocks; Macee Hollins, 4 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal; Brooke Williams, 2 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal; Imani Taylor, 2 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist; Jamie Hall,  2 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist; Mieke van Benthem, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks.
    Defensive standouts were: Alyssa Abron, Karlee Adams, Laila King and Kate Potts.

NH boys 74,
Avery 51
    Three players scored in double figures as the North Hopkins Panthers took a 74-51 win at Avery.
    Kevin Meza popped the net for 19, Trenton Dodd added 16 and Tarence Berry scored 14 for the Panthers.
    The win advanced the North Hopkins record to 21-7 overall, 8-0 for the year under head coach Todd Law.
    Law said, “Avery is a well-coaced team and played a solid first half. We played a decent first half, but the aggressiveness was not there for us. However, in the second half, we came out with a great deal of confidence and intensity. The pace of the game picked up and our shots began to fall.”
    Meza had five 3-pointers in the game and Todd hit four triples.

Saltillo 49,
 Sulphur Bluff 47
    Saltillo held on for a 49-47 win Friday over rival Sulphur Bluff.
    Cade Daniel and Carlos Marquez scored 10 each as the Lions clipped the Bears.
    Saltillo is 11-13 overall, 5-1 in district.
    “We had an excellent second quarter. I feel after the extended halftime, we came our flat and Sulphur Bluff came out and took it to us,” said Bill Giles, Saltillo head boys coach. “This was an exciting high school game. Johnathon Vanholton came in the second quarter and took three chrages, made a couple of steals and rebounded well. This was really his first meaningful varsity game.”
