Both Sulphur Springs varsity basketball teams want to continue the district success they had Tuesday against Pine Tree.

Marshall is the team they contend with today. The Lady Cats will trek to Marshall, two games are planned starting at 5:30 p.m. with the junior varsity and varsity to follow.
The Lady Cats are coming off a 60-29 win over Pine Tree. Desi Debase had 30 points in the win with Shakoja Debase adding 11.
Sulphur Springs is 19-4 overall, 4-2 in district. The Marshall Lady Mavs are 1-5 in district play.
In the first meeting between the two schools, The Lady Cats hammered the Lady Mavs by 30 in the SSHS gym.
“We have four games left and we are contending for a playoff spot. All these games are important, “ said Jeff Chapman, Lady Cats head basketball coach.
The Wildcats have the challenge of hosting a Marshall team which is 24-3, 3-1 in district. Marshall is coming off a 78-77 loss to Texas High.
The first game tonight is at 5 p.m. at the SSHS gym with the freshmen, JV and varsity follow.
The Wildcats, 2-2 in district (11-11 overall), won Tuesday by a 45-33 final in Longview against Pine Tree.
“Marshall is extremely athletic and skilled,” said Jeremy Josey, Sulphur Springs head boys basketball coach. “They shoot the 3-ball a lot and want to penetrate to the rim. They are coming off their first district loss in two years, they will be prepared and ready for us. We must make sure we play our own style and not get into a track meet. We are not going to get up 80 attempts a game like they do.”
