SSMS travel team takes first place

    The Sulphur Springs seventh grade girls travel basketball team won first place in the recent North Lamar Tournament.

    Sulphur Springs defeated Paris, 26-11 to open the tournament. Autumn Tanton led the team with 8 points. Other scorers were: Carissa Carter 5, Maddie Millsap, 4. TaRayla Kelly had 5 rebounds and Danielle Godbolt pulled down 4 boards.
    The team defeated Valiant, 26-13 in the second game. Tanton paced the team with 18 points. Abbigael Baier scored 5 points and Sadie Stroud 4 points. Sydney Williams and Tie’Arria Rose played well on defense, combining for 11 steals.
    In the championship game, Sulphur Springs edged Denison, 22-21 in a thrilling game.
    SaDavia Porter scored 12 for top honors. Kelsey Wallace added 5 points.

Team members are   Abbigael Baier, SaDavia Porter, Tie’Arria Rose, Maddie Millsap and Sydney Williams;  Coach Mary Watson, Carissa Carter, TaRayla Kelley, Autumn Tanton, Danielle Godbolt, Sadie Stroud, Kelsey Wallace and Coach Josh Neill.
