ENNIS — The first tennis tournament of the year was productive according to Sulphur Springs head tennis coach Randy Namanny.
The boys and girls competitors played well despite chilly conditions and a tough competition.

“The Ennis Polar bear tournament was a tough tournament.  Not only were the teams that were there tough teams to beat but weather was also a factor with temperatures not getting about mid 40s with winds 10-15 mph all day.”
Namanny continued, “We competed well and the younger members of the team really got some good experience. Highlights of the tournament were Tommy Helffrich and Johnathan Philo made it to the consolation semi-finals, Abbey Martin and Morgan Sutton advanced to the consolation finals, Drew Sant playing boys singles, made it to the consolation semi-finals and Kezli Cook and Anne-Marie Winborn both making it to the quarterfinals in the main draw.”
Other upcoming tournaments include: Thursday, at the Tim King Classic in Tyler (junior varsity); on Jan. 30, the Longview Invitational (JV); Feb. 1, Spring Hill Tournament (V); Feb. 4, Hallsville Tournament (JV); Feb. 14, Kilgore Tournament (V); Feb. 21, Tim King Classic, Tyler, (V); March 20, Van Tournament (JV); March 21, Jerry Slaton Tournament, Van, (V); March 25, Kilgore Tournament, (JV); March 28, Longview Tournament (V); district tournament will be held at Texas High in Texarkana TBD.
