Wildcat lifters fifth at Forney meet

ORNEY — The first powerlifting meet of the year was successful with Sulphur Springs taking fifth place in the Forney Invitational.
    More than 220 lifters competed in the event which kicked off the season for the Wildcats. A total of 23 teams competed.

    Taking first place in the 148-pound division was Luis Gamez. He has a squad of 370, bench press of 245, dead lift of 390 for a total of 1,005 pounds. Also competing in the 148-pound division - 14. Luis Colorado, squat, 295; bench, 200; dead lift, 285 for a total of 780 pounds. 16. Amario Zamora, squat, 245; bench, 145; dead lift, 295; total, 685. 19. Mason Cleveland, squat, 200; bench, 135; dead lift, 280; total, 615 pounds.
    Jesse Ortiz was second in the 123-class. He had a squat, 340; bench, 195; dead lift, 365, total, 900 pounds. Also in the same class, 8. Dylan Izzi, squat, 235; bench, 175; dead lift, 285 for a total of 695 pounds.
    Zach Spigner was fifth in the 181-pound division. He had a squat, 415; bench, 250; dead lift, 445 for a 1,110 pound total. In the same division - 15. Tyler Rosamond, squat 370; bench, 235; dead lift, 345; total, 950.
    Bryton Wood was sixth in the 198-pound class. He had a squat, 465; bench, 250; dead lift, 415; total, 1,130 pounds. Also in the division, Alex Gamez took eighth. He had a squat, 410; bench, 205; dead lift, 385 for a 1, 000 pound total.
    Jess Jenkins, competing in the super heavy weight class was eighth. He had a squat, 430; bench, 295; dead lift, 480 with a total of 1,205 pounds.
    Sulphur Springs will host a powerlifting meet Saturday in the multipurpose building at 8:30 a.m.
