The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats want to continue what they started last year.

The Lady Cats have six players returning from a team which went 22-13 and made the regional quarterfinals, losing to Mansfield Legacy. This year they would like to build on that success.
Returning players include: Jaleigh Avery, senior infielder who was named to first team all-district; senior Kiara Johnson, team MVP and first team all-district outfield; Haylee Chester, senior designated player who earned second team all-district honors; Katie Sapaugh, senior pitcher/infielder, she earned second team honors as an fielder last season; Makayla Glossen, junior and Sarah Womack, sophomore, returning honorable mention players.
“Sapaugh will start in the pitching circle this year and will have other young arms to help carry the load,” said David Carrillo, head softball coach. “Johnson is returning was the team’s leading hitter at .396 and four year starter Jaleigh Avery at third base. Avery has signed with Blinn College. Also, Chester  an all-district designated player;  Glossen (11 stolen bases in 13 attempts to go with her .284 average) a honorable mention Infielder and sophomore  Womack (honorable mention outfielder) round out the returners.”
Carrillo said, “We will have some players moving around and playing in different spots but I feel with the young talent we have coming up mixed with what we have we should be in pretty good shape. It will be a challenge but I feel this group is looking forward to it. I know I am.”
The coach added, “We look to replace six seniors which included Meagan McCullough and Hailey Dixon who have both continued their careers at Northeast Texas Community College.”
Carrillo is entering his seventh season as head coach of the Lady Cats. He has a 150-87 record at Sulphur Springs. He has a 297-163 overall coaching record with stops in Commerce and Pittsburg.
Carrillo will be assisted by coaches Kevin Tanton, Michelle Namanny and Justin Horschig.
