Wildcats host
soccer opener
    The Sulphur Springs Wildcats soccer team will play their home opener Tuesday at Gerald Prim Stadium.


    The Wildcats host Pittsburg in non-district action. The junior varsity game starts at 5;30 p.m. followed by the varsity at 7:15 p.m.
    The team begins district play Feb. 8 at Greenville.

North Hopkins
girls fall, 61-23
    HONEY GROVE — The North Hopkins Lady Panthers misfired on five shots under the bucket in the first three minutes at No. 20 Honey Grove and never recovered, falling to the state-ranked Lady Warriors 61-23.
    "We were not in the game after the first half. We just missed too many shots and the turnover bug got us again," Lady Panthers head coach Larry Tucker said. "We still have a shot at catching James Bowie but we have to beat Maud Tuesday  night."
    Baile Gammill led the Lady Panthers with seven points. Chelsey Crouch had five, Allegra Thomas four, with Miranda Rushin, Sydney McQueen and Brittany Flanagan getting two each.
    The Lady Panthers are now 3-5 in District 16A while Honey Grove is a perfect 7-0 and 20-1 for the year. North Hopkins stands at 13-12 for the season.
    North Hopkins hosts Maud Tuesday night with the JV girls beginning at 4:30 p.m. followed by the JV boys, varsity girls and varsity boys.

Lady Cats,
Wildcats play
Tuesday
    The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats and Wildcats will be district action Tuesday against  Pine Tree.
    The Lady Cats will have three home games against Pine Tree, starting at 5 p.m.
    The Wildcats will be in Longview vs. Pine Tree, 9, JV, V also starting at 5 p.m.
   

Saltillo Lions

Union Hill
    The Saltillo Lions recorded a district win Friday, downing Union Hill,  65-25 in boys varsity basketball action on the road.
    Edward Jaime and Braden Ivy tied for high point honors with 14 each.
    Saltillo is 11-14 overall, 3-1 in district. They host Karnack on Tuesday.
