ROCKWALL — Sulphur Springs managed a 1-all tie with Garland Lakeview Centennial in Friday tournament action.
    Lakeview scored their only goal in the first half. Sulphur Springs got a Tanner Ramirez goal on a set piece with three minutes to play.

    The tie ended play for Sulphur Springs in the tournament.
    “Lakeview controlled the first half,” said Andy Holt, Sulphur Springs boys soccer head coach. “In the second half we created more opportunities. We did not advance in the tournament. But we are seeing some progress and have a good idea what we need to do.”
    The Wildcats host Pittsburg Tuesday at Gerald Prim Stadium for their home opener. The JV game is 5:30 p.m., varsity at 7:15 p.m.
    In junior varsity action, Sulphur Springs beat Dallas Sunset in a shootout and advanced to play today for third place in the West Mesquite Tournament.
Lady Cats lose, 2-1
    ROYSE CITY — Sulphur Springs saw Royse City score late to break a 1-all tie and win 2-1 in action here Friday night in girls non-district varsity soccer.
    “The Lady Cats battled a tough Lady Bulldog team. The Lady Cats got an early lead from a Grace Grafton goal from an Esmeralda Sanchez assist. The Lady Bulldogs battled back to equalize on a deflected free kick to tie it up,” said Jesus DeLeon, Sulphur Springs head girls soccer coach. “The game went back and forth with the Lady Bulldogs putting a great deal of pressure on the Lady Cats and forcing a player of the game performance from Lady Cats goalkeeper Emily Hurley who kept her team in the game. The Lady Cats battled to the end forcing the Lady Bulldog goalkeeper into some game saving games but came up short.”
    The Lady Cats play Tuesday at Whitehouse in another non-district game. The junior varsity game is at 5:30 p.m., varsity at 7:15 p.m.
