    Several basketball teams in the area competed Friday with the following scores reported.

NH boys 74,
 Honey Grove 66

    HONEY GROVE — Trenton Dodd scored 21 points with five 3-pointers and 10 rebounds as the North Hopkins Panthers took a 74-66 district win over Honey Grove.
    The No. 15 state-ranked Panthers also got  13 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double by Jessie Williams. Kevin Meza had 16 points, including four of six on 3-pointers. Tarance Berry added 10 points and dished out eight assists.
    “I am extremely proud of our team tonight.  Every member of our team fulfilled their role tonight…it was an amazing team effort,” said Todd Law, North Hopkins head boys basketball coach. “Honey Grove played a very good game. We were fortunate to come out on top.  We came out on fire, hitting five threes in the first quarter.  We hit 12 threes on the night and shot 49 percent from the field.  I was really pleased with our offense.  I thought our defensive effort was solid as well.”
    The coach added, “Honey Grove just hit a lot of key shots tonight to keep it close. We played with an incredible amount of confidence and intensity tonight.  The win moves us into sole possession of first as the first round of district play comes to a close.”
    North Hopkins is 19-7 overall, 6-0 in district. Honey Grove falls to 5-1 in district.

Quitman 58,
C-P 23
    The Como-Pickton Eagles fell 58-23 in district boys basketball action to Quitman.
    Malik Gray had 7 for top C-P scoring honors.

   The Cumby Trojans lost 61-49 to Sam Rayburn in district boys basketball action Friday.
    Travis Taylor had 20 points and Noah Dyer chipped in 15 for the Trojans.
