ROCKWALL — Sulphur Springs split a pair of games Thursday in the Rockwall Tournament.
The Wildcats lost 3-1 to Garland High and tied the second game of the day, 1-all against Conrad.

“Against Garland, we scored first off a set piece that was played in by Daniel Santana and head in by Samuel Gallegos,” said Andy Holt, Sulphur Springs head soccer coach. “We allowed the equalizer in the first half and we were tied 1-1 at the half. Garland came out and played a better second half than we did. They scored two goals in the second half and did a good job defending us.”
Holt continued, “We tied the second game 1-1 to Conrad. They scored very early in the first half. We scored the equalizer about 15 minutes later on a penalty kick. The penalty kick was awarded to us because Josue Roque was tripped from behind in the box. Juan Gomez made the penalty kick for us. It was a much more exciting game with both sides creating opportunities. But both goalies played well. Moises Torres made several big stops for us giving us the tie.”
Sulphur Springs plays Lakeview Centennial today at 6:30 p.m.
The Wildcat junior varsity will be in the West Mesquite Tournament which began Thursday and continues through Saturday.
