TEXARKANA — Sulphur Springs fell 87-63 to Texas High in district boys basketball action.
The game turned into a runaway, but during the  night the visiting Wildcats put more than a scare into the homestanding Tigers.

“We stayed with them early, the first quarter ended tied at 18-all, we played very well early,” said Jeremy Josey, Sulphur Springs head boys basketball coach. “Then in the second quarter we missed some shots and fell behind.”
The Wildcats trailed 45-27 at intermission. But in the third period, they went on 22-13 run to jump back into contention.
Texas High pulled away late and won by the 87-63 final. The Tigers closed out the game scoring 29 points in the fourth period, while Sulphur Springs had 14.
Sulphur Springs fell to 9-11, 0-2. Texas High is 9-6, 2-0 in district.
“We cut it to seven points at one time,” Josey said. “Then we missed a few shots. Texas High hit some 3’s and went on a run. But we battled. I was really pleased with the way some guys stepped up.”
Darian Dial-Hall was unable to play due to the flu. Larry Pryor returned to action after being sidelined with an ankle injury.
Cain Cody and Jaylon Dugan had 22 points each for top scoring honors.
“Cody had one of his best game, it was good to get Larry back,” Josey said. “We just ran out of gas late in the game. I was pleased with our effort.”
