Wildcats, Lady Cats take on T. High foes

    Sulphur Springs teams have their work cut out for themselves today as they take on Texas High teams which have not lost in district.
    The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats (17-3, 2-1) host Texas High (17-3, 3-0) in girls basketball battle set for the SSHS gym. Three games are planned, beginning with the freshmen at 5 p.m.

followed by the junior varsity at 6:15 p.m. and varsity at 7:15 p.m.
    The Lady Cats have won their last two district games in a row. Sulphur Springs won by a 53-43 score in Mount Pleasant.
    The Lady Tigers won 87-39 over Pine Tree to remain undefeated for the year. Texas High is scoring 67.9 points per game, allowing 44.2 per contest.
    For the Lady Cats, they are averaging 52.7 points, 29.3 rebounds and 14.6 steals a game. They have an allowed an average of 42 points per game.
    Desi Debase tops the team with a 21.8 point per game average. She also averages 9.6 steals and 4.6 rebounds per game.
    Destiny Wade had 19 points in the win over Mount Pleasant. She averages 12.6 points and 8.9 rebounds a game. Shakoja Debase has 28 three-pointers to lead the team, she averages 6.7 points per game. Kasey Moore averages 6.6 rebounds and 4.4 points a game.
     The Wildcats are still looking for their first win in district play. Sulphur Springs plays at Texarkana on Tuesday with the freshmen, junior varsity and varsity slated to be in action, starting at 5 p.m.
    The Wildcats are 9-10 overall, 0-1 in district. Sulphur Springs lost 60-44 at home to Mount Pleasant. Texas High is 8-6, 1-0.
    “They are extremely athletic - about 6-2 across the board with a couple of 6-4 guys in the back end of their press. They will trap you from the opening tip. They want to create as much chaos and shot attempts as possible for themselves.  They are quick at the guard with the 3 returning starters who are all skilled and can shoot the 3,” said Jeremy Josey, Sulphur Springs head boys basketball coach
    The coach added, “We need to attack their press with the pass not the dribble and finish inside. The whole theme of Tuesday's game is to value every possession and finish each possession with points.”
    NOTE TO FANs -tonight’s game is a “Blue out game” all Sulphur Springs fans are urged to wear blue to the game.
