SS teams finish soccer events

Both Sulphur Springs teams finished tournament play with Saturday games.

    In action in Mount Pleasant - the varsity Lady Cats won 1-0 over Tyler. Myranda Pierce scored the game winner in the second half. Madison Ramirez had an assist.
    “The Lady Cats played a difficult game against the Lady Lions of John Tyler,” said Jesus DeLeon, Sulphur Springs head girls soccer coach. “We were able to get the winning goal by Pierce.”
    The Sulphur Springs junior varsity took third place. The squad defeated Paris 1-0 in play Saturday. Paris had a hand ball in the box. Faith Singleton scored on a penalty kick goal which was the deciding goal. The junior varsity is coached by Joel Bailey.
    The junior varsity and varsity host Lindale Tuesday, the JV game begins at 5:30 p.m. at Gerald Prim Stadium.
    The Wildcats lost 2-1 in the final round of the Forney Tournament, falling to host school Forney.
    “We were down 1-0 at the half. They (Forney)  scored again very early in the second half to make it 2-0. About halfway through the second half we scored to make it 2-1. Andy Green scored on a header from a cross by Josue Roque. It was a nice build up and a great finish by Green. We battled but just couldn't get another goal to tie it up,” said Andy Holt, Sulphur Springs head boys soccer coach.
    The Wildcats will play Thursday through Saturday in the Rockwall Tournament. The junior varsity team will play the same dates in the West Mesquite Tournament.
