MOUNT PLEASANT — The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats posted their second win in district, downing Mount Pleasant, 53-43 Friday night.
The Lady Cats used a balanced scoring approach with three players hitting in double figures.

Destiny Wade had a double-double and was the leading scorer. She had 19 points from 7-of-9 shooting, she also made 5 of 9 free throws. In the game she pulled down 10 rebounds of the 26 total for the Lady Cats.
Desi Debase had 14 points with 10 steals, 7 assists with 4 deflections. Shakoja Debase made 3 of 9 3-pointers and had 11 points.
“It’s good to get that many players involved in the scoring,” said Jeff Chapman, Sulphur Springs Lady Cats head basketball. “It would have been better to have four in double figures. Chrissalynd Person scored seven from the perimeter, she had a 3-pointer that was good to see. Desi got her regular points and Destiny played very well.”
The Lady Cats went to 2-1 in district, 17-3 overall. Mount Pleasant fell to 2-1 in district.
“We played well, especially in the second half. We got a 10 point lead and kept it,” Chapman said. “These district games are hard on my nerves. The girls were really excited about playing Mount Pleasant.”
Chapman said, “Desi did a good job of distributing the ball. She knows that if the people score inside it helps the team. Mount Pleasant ran a 2-3 zone and the openings came inside. We had been working on ways to take advantage of that and Destiny did her job. Kasey Moore made some good passes. Shakoja shot well from the outside to keep them honest.”
The coach said he is impressed how the Lady Cats continue to be an unselfish team.
“We got the ball where it needed to be. It doesn’t matter to us who scores,” Chapman said.
The Lady Cats had to adjust to the slow pace of the game, used by Mount Pleasant.
Chapman said, “The Mount Pleasant coach wanted an ugly game. Well, he got one. We did not take many shots and didn’t run much. But we got the win and that’s the object of the game.”
