Lady Cats seek second district win

    After splitting the first two games in district play, the Lady Cats look for a win Friday in Mount Pleasant.
    The varsity game is at 7:30 p.m. today, the junior varsity and freshmen begin play at 5 p.m.

    Mount Pleasant is 2-0 in district coming off an impressive 34-32 home win over Pine Tree  in 14-4A competition.
    In that win, the Lady Tigers broke a 23-all tie to start the final period. Mount Pleasant kept Pine Tree at bay with Sophia Sanchez scoring a key bucket.The Lady Tigers also hit several  late free throws.
    Sulphur Springs is coming off a 63-33 win over Marshall for their first win in district. The Lady Cats lost 58-45 in Pine Tree in the district opener.
    In the win over Marshall, Desi Debase had 34 points and continues to lead the team in scoring, assists and steals.
    In the big win, Destiny Wade had a double-double with 11 rebounds and 11 points.
    A total of eight players scored as Sulphur Springs used everyone available in the game.
    Sulphur Springs had 35 rebounds as a team.
    The Lady Cats defense came up with 21 steals and 21 deflections. Many coming from the half and full court press.
    “I think we can play with Mount Pleasant,” said Jeff Chapman, head girls basketball coach. “They’ve scored in the 30s. We want to keep them in that range.”
