NH girls 48,
Detroit 37

From Staff Reports
DETROIT — Sophomore Miranda Rushin and senior Brittany Flanagan came off the bench to spark a second half rally leading the North Hopkins Lady Panthers to a convincing 48-37 win over Detroit in a District 16A contest.

The Lady Panthers could not get untracked in the first half falling behind 18-17 at intermission, but Rushin connected on a big three-point shot to put North Hopkins up 20-18 and they never relinquished the lead after that. At the start of the final quarter, the Lady Eagles cut the lead to 32-31 but it was Flanagan who stepped up and hit a trey to make it a 35-31 lead. Freshman Sheyenne Mitchell made two big buckets in the final minutes before fouling out. Mitchell also had 12 rebounds in the contest. Allegra Thomas added 13 boards for North Hopkins.
"Allegra (Thomas) did not score like she usually does, but those rebounds were huge for us. Mitchell has really come on strong in district. The team has grown together this year," North Hopkins head girls basketball coach Larry Tucker said. "The girls don't really care who gets the glory, they all just want to win. And it seems like somebody different steps up each game."
Rushin led the Lady Panthers with 10 points with Mitchell, Chelsey Crouch and Baile Gammill each added nine apiece.
"Gammill did a good job defensively on their leading scorer, Waggoner (22 points),  holding her to just four free throws in the last quarter," Tucker explained. "Crouch came through like the leader she is with seven points in the second half and five rebounds in the final minutes."
The win gave the Lady Panthers a 2-3 district record going into next Tuesday's game at McLeod. North Hopkins is just one game behind James Bowie for the third playoff spot at this time. The Lady Panthers raised their season record to 12-10.
The Lady Panther junior varsity raised their district record to 3-2 with a big 29-9 win behind 10 points from Abree Bisenious and six from Samantha Freeman.
