Avery 42,
NH Girls 35
BIRTHRIGHT — The North Hopkins Lady Panthers fell to co-district leader Avery 42-35 in a hard fought battle Thursday evening. Avery's all-state playmaker, Taylor Bowles hit for 22 points including 12-16 from the foul line.

Avery led by as many as 13 points but the Lady Panthers continued to grind away at the lead and got within three at 35-32 before finally falling.
"We really fought hard tonight and I could not be prouder of my girls," North Hopkins girls head coach Larry Tucker said. "We just could not quite catch them, but we gave it all we had. All nine girls played hard."
With the score knotted at 9-9 in the first period, Avery went on an 8-0 run to finish the quarter ahead 17-9 with Bowles hitting 5-6 free throws and a field goal. The score at intermission was 25-14 with Avery leading. The Lady Panthers fought back to make it 32-25 going into the final stanza.
"We had 15 first half turnovers but cut that to just five in the second half and that made a big difference keeping us close," Tucker added. "Sheyenne Mitchell got into foul trouble but she still had nine rebounds and Allegra Thomas had eight boards."
The loss drops the Lady Panthers to 1-3 in District 16-A play and 11-10 for the year.
