NH girls 53, Cumby 49
CUMBY — Three North Hopkins players scored in double figures as the Lady Panthers held off Cumby 53-49 to win their final non-district match Saturday afternoon at Cumby.

"We got off to a big lead but Cumby just kept coming back," head coach Larry Tucker said. "Both teams were trying to shake off the Christmas holidays. I was proud of the way my girls came out firing."
Sophomores Baile Gammill with 20 and Allegra Thomas 14 led the Lady Panthers along with senior Chelsey Crouch who hit for 13.
"We scored half of our points on the fast break which is something we have not done much this year," Tucker added. "Thomas, Crouch and Mitchell (Sheyenne) controlled the boards most of the game. I was impressed with Cumby's Candace Horrocks who hit four three-pointers."
North Hopkins sprinted to a 17-6 first quarter lead that Cumby cut to 27-20 at intermission. The Lady Trojans made it 40-35 after three quarters. North Hopkins would build the lead to nine points but Cumby kept pace cutting the lead to the final 53-49 margin.
The win ups North Hopkins to 11-9 for the season. The Lady Panthers host Avery Thursday Jan. 2 in a district game with the JV games beginning at 2 p.m.
