Learning on the run and in games, that is what Sulphur Springs has been doing and it has worked out well so far.
Sulphur Springs will be back in tournament play this week after a break for Christmas.

The Lady Cats will take on the Jackonville Maidens at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the first round of the Kaufman Tournament. The second game is set for 5:30 p.m. against either Frisco Centennial or North Forney.
Sulphur Springs is 12-1 for the year.
“We have not had that much practice time, so we have learned well in games,” said Jeff Chapman, Sulphur Springs head girls basketball coach.
“Buddy Hawkins at Winnsboro shared some wisdom with me,” Chapman said. “He explained that this time of year, you don’t get much practice time  so you have to learn in tournaments. That is what we have done.’
Hawkins, a coaching legend, was a mentor to Chapman before he retired.
The Lady Cats won first place in the recent Edgewood Tournament.
Desi Debase, junior point guard, paces the team in several categories. She averages 21.8 points per game, she also has 57 steals and 51 assists.
Shakoja Debase has 21 3-pointers and averages 7.9 points  and 4.5 rebounds per game.
Destiny Wade, a 6-1 post, is averaging 11.3 points and 8.9 rebounds a game. Kasey Moore, also a 6-1 player, is pulling down 6.6 rebounds scoring 5.5 points a game.
