Wildcats at home, Lady Cats on road tonight

    The Wildcats and Lady Cats will both be on the hardwood courts tonight in non-district basketball action.


    The Lady Cats, 10-1 for the year, will be at Canton. Three games are set to begin at 4:30 p.m. with the freshmen, junior varsity and varsity in action.
    Sulphur Springs went 4-0 in the recent Edgewood Tournament taking first place in the event. Canton is 10-2 and ranked No. 19 in Class 3A.
    “We are playing pretty well and doing a good job on defense,” said Jeff Chapman, Sulphur Springs head girls basketball coach.
    The Lady Cats are allowing 41 points per game, while scoring 54 a contest.
    Top scorer for the Lady Cats is Desi Debase with a 20.7 points per game average. Destiny Wade is averaging 12. points and 8.6 rebounds a game. Shakoja Debase is pumping in 7.7 points per game and leads the squad with 17 3-pointers.
    Kasey Moore is pulling down 6.9 points per game, scoring 4.6 points per outing.
    The Wildcats, 4-6 overall, will host Paris in non-district boys action at the SSHS gym.
    The freshmen play at 5 p.m. followed by the junior varsity at 6;15 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m.
    Sulphur Springs finished strong in the Wills Point Tournament with wins over Quitman and Canton.
    Paris for the season is 6-3. They are coming off a last second loss to Haworth, Okla., 62-59 in the New Boston Tournament. They beat Daingerfield, 54-52 and New Boston, 62-23 in the tournament. They fell 40-35 to Arkansas High.
    The squad won district last year and are predicted to do well  this season.
    Leading scorers for the Paris Wildcats are Seljah Johnson at forward; point guard, Roy’D Jones and guard Jalen Wallace.
