Cap Herman
Tournament
SULPHUR BLUFF —  The North Hopkins Lady Panthers had three players in double figures Saturday night as they rolled to a 64-38 win over CHESS to capture the Cap Herman Tournament championship.
Senior Kelsey Buchanan’s three first half three-point shots sparked the Lady Panthers to 32-20 cushion at intermission.
"Buchanan had her best game of the year. She really got us going," said Larry Tucker, Lady Panthers head coach . "I am really happy for my girls because they have worked so hard this year. It' was a great team victory. Every girl on the team scored."
Sophomore Baile Gammill sparked North Hopkins in the second half with nine of her team leading 15 points. Allegra Thomas had her second double-double of the tournament with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
"I can't say enough about how much Allegra means to our team. She plays hard, never complains and does her job consistently," Tucker added. "We are really playing good team basketball right now. I just hope it transfers over to district play."
The Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Knights 32-18 in the second half to earn the win. The Lady Panthers also did a great job on the boards with Chelsey Crouch and Shyenne Mitchell each grabbing 10 rebounds.
"We started blocking out better, but the key to our win was having just 17 turnovers. Turnovers have been our problem all year, but tonight we took care of the ball," Tucker said.
Buchanan and Gammill were named to the all tournament team and Thomas was named tournament Most Valuable Player.
The win raised the Lady Panthers record to 9-8 for the season. They will host Honey Grove Tuesday and travel to Maud Friday as they get back to district play.
