lose road tilt
SIMMS — The North Hopkins Lady Panthers dropped a 36-33 heartbreaker at James Bowie to open District 16A action Tuesday night. The Lady Panthers fell behind by as much as 15 points early in the second quarter but fought back to cut the Lady Pirate lead to 19-12 at intermission.

Led by Baile Gammill's six third quarter steals led to a 15-2 North Hopkins run  to lead 27-22 going into the final frame. Bowie would hit 7-14 free throws down the stretch to overcome the Lady Panthers and take the win.
The Lady Pirates hit 16-34 free throws for the game while North Hopkins would only make 4 out of just 10 total charity shots.
"They beat us at the free throw line. We showed a lot of guts coming back but our turnovers and fouls eventually got us beat," head coach Larry Tucker said. "We did a good job on defense. Chelsey Crouch, Shyenne Mitchell and Kelsey Buchanan rebounded really good for us and Miranda Rushin gave us a spark off the bench."
Crouch hit 11 points and had 11 rebounds while Rushin added seven, and Buchanan five.
The Lady Panthers fell to 6-8 on the season and stand 0-1 in district play. In other games in District 16A, Honey Grove beat McLeod while Maud whipped Detroit. North Hopkins will compete in the Cap Herman Tournament at Sulphur Bluff this weekend.
