Lady Cats split two Frisco tilts

A split in tournament play is sometimes all you can ask for when the competition is tough.
Sulphur Springs got a split Friday from games played in the SS softball tournament.

They lost the early game to Frisco Wakeland 10-4, but rebounded to take an 8-1 decision over Frisco Liberty in the nightcap. Frisco Wakeland 10,

The visiting Frisco Wakeland team exploded for three runs in the first inning and never looked back taking a 10-4 win and giving the hometown Lady Cats their first loss of the year.
Alexis Cantu of Frisco Wakeland threw a complete game allowing four runs scattering six hits and striking out four.
Mac Morgan had a big hit for Sulphur Springs with a run scoring single.
Sulphur Springs pitcher Taylor Clifton also went five innings allowing 10 runs, off 13 hits, striking out four.
For Frisco Wakeland, Darjen Dunn and Kayla Williams each went three-for-three. Cantu helped her cause with a solo homer.
In the first inning, the visitors strung together a two out rally. But the Lady Cats were down 3-0.
In the bottom of the second, despite a double by Brittani Crawford and a single by Krista McMahan, the Lady Cats were unable to score as Kaci Kennedy fanned at the plate with T’Kea Johnson flying out to the shortstop and Kara Tomlinson grounding into a fielder’s choice.
Cantu ripped a homer to lead off the third inning and pad the lead for Frisco Wakeland to 4-0.
The visitors added two more runs in the top of the fifth, sending six batters to plate with two getting singles and one knocking a double as Sulphur Springs fell behind 6-0.
The bright spot offensively for Sulphur Springs was the bottom of the fourth inning. The Lady Cats got four runs as they sent eight batters to the dish.
McMahan started the uprising with a walk and Kennedy followed with a single. Johnson struck out. Tomlinson grounded into a fielder’s choice. With runners at first and third, Hall reached on an error by the shortstop which allowed a run to score. Morgan pounded a two-run double off the left field fence to make it a 6-3 game. Maurie Lewis singled home a run. Katie Dodd popped out to the shortstop and the rally ended with Sulphur Springs trailing, 6-4.
The Frisco Wakeland team added four more runs to win by the 10-4 final.

The second game Friday was much better for the Lady Cats as they scored eight times off 12 hits taking an 8-1 win.
Kennedy was the starting pitching, throwing five innings allowing one run while striking out four. Bailee Speaker pitched one inning in relief.
The Lady Cats ripped the ball up and down their lineup.
Johnson was two-for-three with a double, two RBI; Morgan, three-for-three with two RBI and a sacrifice bunt; Lewis, three-for-four with a double, two singles, three RBI; Dodd, one-for-two, one RBI; Tomlinson and McMahan also added singles.
For the year, the Lady Cats are 4-1.
Morgan leads the team with a .625 average and nine RBI while Lewis is hitting .444 with 11 RBI with a double and a homer; Hall is hitting .438 and Johnson has a .385 average.
